The Hippensteal Mountain View Inn is an eleven-bedroom bed and breakfast designed, built, and decorated by Vern and Lisa Hippensteal. A Fine Arts graduate of the University of Tennessee, Terri prefers watercolor for capturing subtle details and the nuances of light and shadow. In all of her works, she uses the inspiration of the Smoky Mountains. A land of mountain hugging clouds, of cool showers drifting among the forested peaks, of misty sunrises and hazy sunsets. A land of hidden coves filled with wildflowers and valleys isolated from the outside world. Living in such beautiful surroundings, she views the changing seasons with wonder. The only constant being the mountains, layer upon layer, stretching one after the other to disappear into the horizon. Through her art, she has captured pioneer homes and farms, picturesque landscapes and the many wildflowers abundant in the Smokies.

Welcome to a bit of mountain history. In its natural setting alongside the beautiful Roaring Fork creek, the mill features local crafts, antiques, and honey (seasonally) as well as two over-night rental cabins and now accommodating small party weddings and group/individual photo shoots. Built as a tourist attraction in the late 1920s, Ely's Mill is one of the few remaining pieces of "Old Gatlinburg". Privately owned, it is still run by the original family who live on site. While the Waterwheel no longer turns, the place is being restored on our easy "pay as you go" plan with hopes of one day having it work again. Boogertown Gap is a local Old-Time String Band playing & singing traditional Mountain Music on traditional instruments, & Celtic/classical music on flute and guitar. Ruth Barber and Keith Watson, husband and wife, are the foundation of Boogertown Gap (BTG), but they also perform regularly with a fiddler and bassist. Lumberjack Feud, the most unique dinner show in the Smoky Mountains, opened in 2011. The production finds its home in an 800 seat state-of-the-art sports arena that includes waterfalls, pools, the Smoky Mountains Forest History Center and the Lumberjack Hall of Fame. The arena is the only one designed for timber sports in the United States. Guests are taken back to the 1930’s when the local logging industry came to an end with the opening of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This sparked a bitter feud between two logging families, the Dawson’s and the McGraw’s, who agree to settle their claims to the last tract of timber land in a lumberjack competition, with the losing family having to leave the land. The camp cook entertains and keeps the peace while you are served a delicious southern style meal consisting of chicken, pork, macaroni and cheese and cobbler served up in a mess kit, similar to the ones used by lumberjacks in the 1930s, with utensils. Lumberjack Feud, the most unique dinner show in the Smoky Mountains, opened in 2011. The production finds its home in an 800 seat state-of-the-art sports arena that includes waterfalls, pools, the Smoky Mountains Forest History Center and the Lumberjack Hall of Fame. The arena is the only one designed for timber sports in the United States. Guests are taken back to the 1930’s when the local logging industry came to an end with the opening of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This sparked a bitter feud between two logging families, the Dawson’s and the McGraw’s, who agree to settle their claims to the last tract of timber land in a lumberjack competition, with the losing family having to leave the land. Although LeConte Lodge® is now under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, it predates the establishment of the park in 1934. Jack Huff, a Gatlinburg mountaineer and founder of the rustic lodge, began building the retreat in 1926. Boogertown Gap is a local Old-Time String Band playing & singing traditional Mountain Music on traditional instruments, & Celtic/classical music on flute and guitar. Ruth Barber and Keith Watson, husband and wife, are the foundation of Boogertown Gap (BTG), but they also perform regularly with a fiddler and bassist. The Mission of Appalachian Bear Rescue is to rehabilitate orphaned and injured bears for release to the wild; and to educate the public about black bears and the regional threats facing them.

Black Bear Solar Institute is a unique non-profit charitable organization, operating public demonstration sites in the Gateway Communities of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. These show how Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles and Wildlife Rehabilitation can combine today to benefit residents and visitors, domestic and wild, to the Great Smoky Mountain region, while enhancing the natural environment we all share and enjoy. Visit our Educational Center in Townsend’s Trillium Cove Shopping Village to meet our Executive Director Lisa Stewart. Lisa has 22 years of wildlife rehab experience, which includes raising and releasing back to their wild homes 133 orphaned or injured Black Bear Cubs over the last nine years. Revenue generated through sales of solar module sponsorships and solar electricity is used to fund projects which benefit our environment and its wild and domestic inhabitants. Major projects are constructing the most sustainable Wildlife Rehabilitation facility ever built for all wildlife native to the Great Smoky Mountains region, from Bears to Bunnies, and establishing a Green Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Green Gateway bridges the gap between the Interstate Highways and major metropolitan areas of Tennessee to the National Park Gateway Community of Townsend, Tennessee with Electric Vehicle charging stations, enabling EV drivers to visit the National Park powered by clean, renewable solar-generated electricity.
