Host of Meet the Author events planned in national park this fall

A full slate of Meet the Author/Artist events are being planned in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the coming weeks. During their visits to each of the locations listed below, the authors/artists will discuss their work and how the national park inspired their creativity.

Authors, their works, dates and locations are as follows:

-Jeff Alt, author of The Adventure of Bubba Jones, Get Your Kids Hiking, and A Walk for Sunshine, will appear from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Sugarlands Visitor Center on Sept. 30.

-Daniel S. Pierce, author of Corn from a Jar, Hazel Creek, and An Illustrated Guide to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, will appear at Sugarlands Visitor Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 6.

-David Brill, author of Into the Mist, will appear from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., first at Sugarlands Visitor Center on Oct. 13, then again during the same hours on Oct. 14, at Oconaluftee Visitor Center.

-Gail Palmer, author of Smoky Mountain Tales: Feuds, Murder and Mayhem, will appear from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Sugarlands Visitor Center on Oct. 20.

-Sandra Smathers, artist known for her Smoky Mountain-inspired jewelry, will appear from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Oconaluftee Visitor Center on Oct. 22.

-Julia Webb, who’s family donated the manuscript that became Cades Cove: A Personal Story, will appear at Sugarlands Visitor Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Oct. 29.

-Kim DeLozier, retired GSMNP wildlife biologist and author of Bear in the Back Seat I and II, will appear at Sugarlands Visitor Center from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Oct. 17, Oct. 21, and Oct. 26. He’ll make a North Carolina appearance on Oct. 20, at Oconaluftee Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Great Smoky Mountains Association, a nonprofit funding partner of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is sponsoring each event. GSMA supports the national park through its membership program and sales at eight park visitor center locations. All ranger-approved publications and products provided for sale by GSMA are designed to enhance the visiting public’s understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of the national park. Those who wish to enrich their national park experience are also encouraged to become members.
