    GSMA musical release receives Independent Music Awards nominations

    UPDATE: WE WON Best Album - Compilation! Great Smoky Mountains Association's 2017 musical release, Big Bend Killing: The Appalachian Ballad Tradition, received two Independent Music Awards nominations for Best Album – Compilation and Best Music Producer – Roots / Country. Winners will be announced next Saturday, June 22, at the Independent Music Awards ceremony in New York City.

  3. Great Smoky Mountains Association Nominated for Two IBMA Awards

    GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Great Smoky Mountains Association’s Big Bend Killing: The Appalachian Ballad Tradition is nominated for two International Bluegrass Music Association Special Awards: Graphic Design by Karen Key and Liner Notes by Ted Olson. 

    The International Bluegrass Music Awards honor members of the bluegrass industry who work behind the scenes. Winners of the Special Awards will be announced Thursday, Sept. 27. Awards are voted on by the professional membership of the International Bluegrass Music Association—the professional nonprofit association for the bluegrass music industry. 

    Big Bend Killing: The Appalachian Ballad Tradition is a two-disc set produced by Great Smoky Mountains Association in support of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It features 32 traditional folks ballads for a total of more than two hours of music. Featured performers include Doyle Lawson, Alice Gerrard, Laura Boosinger, David Holt, Rosanne Cash and many others.

  4. GSMA Wins APPL Awards

    Great Smoky Mountains Association earned two first-place awards and four honorable mentions in the Media and Partnership Awards competition held by the Association of Partners for Public Lands in Albuquerque, N.Mex., last month.

    First-place honors were awarded in the Informational Publications category to Smokies Guide, the official Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarterly newspaper, and in the Electronic Media category to “An Island in the Sky: Clingmans Dome and the Spruce -Fir Forest,” the first in GSMA’s Smoky Mountain Explorer video series.

    Contest judges said of the newspaper: “The Smokies Guide consistently delivers well-written content in an engaging style and design. It is a model of an effective publication that stands the test of time. (It consists of) positive, up-beat, lively text, (which is) easy to read and comprehend. Makes me want to clip and save articles.”
